Technology Workstations
The New NEISD Classroom
and Technology Workstations
It is important to ask: Who will be prepared for the new world? Who will have the technological and thinking skills needed for the 21st century? And how can we help them prepare?-Web 2.0 New tools, new schools.
Do your students have access to technology all day long?
You have the tools! Why not use them?
Here are some key points in making workstations work for you!
- ALL workstations are TEKS based.
- Direct teach and model use of all peripherals at the beginning of the year.
- Assign “Techsperts” for each piece of equipment so you can continue to work uninterrupted.
- Let students have a choice as to how they present their evidence of learning.
- Allow your students to have fun and free reign when it comes to technology. Trust me; they are more comfortable with this stuff than we are.
- Understand that not every assignment must result in a worksheet. It could be video, audio, or whatever is outside of the box!
- Ticket to Read and First in Math are NOT technology workstations! (ick) Skill and drill is not the answer. There must be accountability in what they do (ie…recording sheet, video and so forth. Something tangible must be turned in when completed.
- Most importantly, let the students teach you a thing or two about technology! You’ll be impressed with what they create!
